In two years Marylanders will be able to become part of history. On November 2, 2010, the voting citizens of Maryland will be asked to approve or reject a question calling for a constitutional convention for the purpose of amending the current Maryland constitution.

Article 14 section 2 of the current constitution requires the citizens of Maryland to be asked every 20 years if they want to call for a convention in order to change the current constitution.

The current constitution is 141 years old and for the most part works but we are sure that anyone who takes the time to study it will find items that are not in tune with today’s world.

Some thoughts on what could be added, the referendum, allowing the people the right to vote directly on laws, which could supersede or overrule the legislature and include Term Limits, for all elected officials. Look over the document and see for yourself. See what changes you would like to see made.

This is not a call to arms to rewrite the Maryland constitution but a call to the citizens of Maryland to take part in the electoral process by voting to approve or reject the call for a convention.

Take the time to become informed, read our state’s most important document and join in a call for a constitutional convention in 2010.You can view the current Maryland Constitution at
